The Philippines held a conference celebrating 100 years of Fatima at the SMX. CFC FFL helped out as part of the service team, and dad gave a sharing at the event:
Our Lady of Fatima has always been part of my missionary life, as the day I decided to be a missionary was her feast day. May 13, 1997. During the World Youth Day in Spain, one of the days we went to Portugal and visited Fatima. It was one of the best experiences of my life, saying thank you to Our Lady who changed my life.
Our Lady requested asked for consecration to her Immaculate Heart. And our Parish is – The Immaculate Heart of Mary. No coincidences in faith.
It never occurred to me, but two of my children are named after the two Saints of Fatima: Francisco and Jacinta. I was happily thinking to myself: Wow, see how Fatima is intertwined with my life!
Then it occurred to me. Wait. I AM NAMED AFTER THOSE SAINTS. Francisco. And not many people know, but my third name is Xacinto (yes, with an X). Amazing to me, that even when I was born and named, that Fatima would play such an important role in my life.
My name. My kids. My Parish. My transformation. And now, my mission.
St. Pope John Paul II was saved by Our Lady of Fatima when he was shot at the Vatican, and we know how much JP II has done for the pro-life and pro-family causes – especially with his teachings on the Theology of the Body. Now, with the work we do in Live Life and Family and Life Update, we need to push even harder.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
