Abolish the SK?

I was never a fan of the SK (Sangguniang Kabataan), because I didn’t really know what they did. I never voted for SK members. And all I heard were stories of corruption and basketball leagues. So when there was news of a move to abolish the SK, I was not surprised.

Today, though, if you ask me about the SK, I have an opinion. Because I see a SK that works. I have been working with SK Isabela this whole year – their President, Krystyna Dy and us, Live Pure. We have been going around Isabela, giving talks on chastity, leadership and anti-drugs. I see their SK having sports leagues for the poorest of the poor. I see their efforts in helping typhoon affected areas. And I see SK youth transforming their lives to do good.

Of course, the SK can use some reform. And yes, this is one province in the midst of seventy+ more. But one good area can plead the case for the rest of the country. The SK is working. And they have a vision and new direction for the future. And all they need are morally good and hardworking leaders to bring them to the future.

  1. I came across this site by accident and it does not explain what the letters ‘SK’ stand for. So I immediately lost interest.
