Does it have to be ME?

“Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands
and put my finger into the nailmarks
and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Thomas gets a bad rap. He is always known as doubting Thomas. He was not with the others when they saw Jesus after the resurrection, and so he did not believe that they actually saw Him. The priest at the Mass I went to made a good point. How could Thomas believe them, when they all still were hiding? Even after the saw Jesus?

But again, Thomas was not the only doubter.

She went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping.
When they heard that he was alive
and had been seen by her, they did not believe.

They did not believe Mary Magdalene.

After this he appeared in another form
to two of them walking along on their way to the country.
They returned and told the others;
but they did not believe them either.

They did not believe the other two who walked and ate with Jesus either.

So Thomas was not the only doubter. Thomas just wanted to see Jesus with his own eyes. Just like us. We sometimes don’t believe others when they experience certain things that bring them closer to Jesus. We are always acting the skeptic. Especially if we do not put a “premium” on those people, so to speak. Who are they to experience such, and not me?

We lack faith. We lack trust. And we are always thinking that we are better than other people – and so WE should be the one to have the best experiences, and not others. Why are we like that? God uses the lowly to shame the strong, right? I have to keep that in mind.

And when we DO experience something awesome, it would be good to not only talk about it, but to LIVE IT OUT. Everyday. How else will other people believe if they do not see a positive change in us?
