1. The total fertility rate (how many children a woman would have in her lifetime)/TFR for ideal replacement levels is 2.11 developed countries and 2.33 in developing countries (because of better maternal and child health care in developed countries).
2. The 2.11 TFR is to replace one father, one mother and includes all those who may not have children (priests, nuns, etc.). If the TFR of a country is 1.9, it can’t be reversed and the country’s population will slowly die.
3. In the 1970’s, global TFR was 4.3. In 2010, it went down to 2.6. However, developed countries have a TFR of an average of only 1.6 (meaning their population is slowly dying).
4. In the Philippines, the TFR in 2005 was 3.41. By 2040, the projected TFR will decline to 2.07.
5. By the 2050, the United Nations predicts that the global TFR will be 2, less than the ideal TFR. By this time, world population will level out.
