5 REASONS WHY THE WORLD IS NOT OVERPOPULATED BASED ON AGR
1. The average growth rate (AGR) is how much a country is growing in terms of population. Populations increase as people are born and decrease as people die or emigrate.
2. A positive growth rate means there are more births than deaths. A zero pop’n growth means for every death, there’s a birth. This is the goal of demographics. A negative growth rate means for every death, there’s no birth.
3. Countries with negative growth rates are Japan & Germany (both -.1), based on UNFPA stats (United Nations Population Fund State of the World Population 2009).
4. The U.S. has an AGR of 1% only because of migrants from Mexico and Latin America, so it’s artificial.
5. National Statistics Office (NSO) 2007 stats said that from 1990-2000, the Philippines had an AGR of 2.34%. From 2000-2007, this went down to 2.04%. Then DOH Secretary Cabral in February 2010, said it was still 2.04% , even though UNFPA stats said it was only 1.8 between 2005-2010. Who do we believe? In any case, Cabral said we need to bring it down to 1.3 or 1.4%.
